Laser Treatment for Varicose Veins

[Back to Vascular Surgeries List]

Varicose veins are bulging veins just below the surface of the skin that can be unsightly and cause discomfort. Now there's a simple way to remove them, with laser treatment.

In stark contrast to traditional "vein stripping" surgery, the laser procedure takes about 45 minutes and is performed in the doctor's office under a local anesthetic. The doctor inserts a thin laser fiber into the vein through a sheath. You may feel an unfamiliar sensation, but the procedure is not painful. There is no recovery time, with only slight swelling right after the procedure.

Montana Heart uses the VenaCure™ laser vein treatment, which delivers just the right wavelength of laser energy to just the right tissue, causing the affected vein to close while your body automatically routes the blood to other healthy veins.

In clinical trials, laser treatment has proved to be 97% effective, with no recurrence in the veins that have been treated. Follow-up procedures may be desired to obtain optimal aesthetic results.

Treatment for Spider Veins

Smaller than varicose veins, spider veins are little red or purple bursts on the surface of the skin. Spider veins and small varicose veins can be treated with sclerotherapy. This office procedure involves injecting chemicals into the damaged veins to seal them off, detouring the blood to other nearby veins.

For some patients, a combination of laser treatment and sclerotherapy is the most effective treatment for superficial vein problems.
